Alex Banko was Born on December 2nd, 1941 in Northampton, Pennsylvania. As far as education goes, he didn't attend a public school, but rather a grammar school. His civil occupation before he entered into the army was that he was a semi-skilled worker who worked with the mechanical treatment of metals such as rolling, pressing, stamping, forging, etc. He officially enlisted in the army in Philidelphia on August 24th, 1942. At the time of his enlistment he was single and had no children to support. His rank was a Private First Class (PFC), and he was a inof the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment and part of the 101st Airborne Division. Sadly his role in te army came to an end on June 6th, 1944, or, D-Day. For his service in the army, Alex Banko recieved the award of a Purple Heart. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and also has a headstone in Union Cemetery, Hellertown, PA.
